This course considers the concepts, principles and purpose of testing and evaluation in Vocational and Technical Education. The five major targets of evaluation; knowledge, reasoning, skills, products and dispositions are assessed using the major instruments of testing; observation, written tests, performance test and non-test evaluation techniques. The focus is on the development of teacher-made tests that are valid, reliable, objective, discriminating, comprehensive and practical. Exercises will provide an opportunity to develop, administer and interpret teacher-made tests that promote continuous improvement of instruction and student success. Some consideration will be given to future directions in assessment and testing especially computer mediated testing.
Major Learning Objectives include:
* Understand and correctly apply the key terms, concepts, models and principles of testing and evaluation in Vocational and Technical Education
* Understand and articulate the purpose of testing and evaluation with respect to the targets of testing and level of mastery.
* Create a formative and summative evaluation plan for a course that you are responsible for and include written, practical and non-test evaluation instruments.
* Develop, assemble, administer, score, interpret, and improve appropriate teacher-made tests to assess your students learning in the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.
* Develop and administer a non-test evaluation strategy.
* Identify the learning climate needed to foster ongoing evaluation
* Identify the considerations in interpreting and using test results to provide for continuous improvement and determine final achievement status.
* Identify the major issues respecting the use of computer test management programs.
